Generally, within the context of structured and practiced religions, such as Catholicism, religious figures can be easy to pick out and are quite obvious as they stand out from one’s day to day.  Such as walking down the street and seeing perhaps a nun or a sister, or a religious father making their way from a cathedral.  Similar can be said in this piece by Evans as they stick out like a sore thumb.  But do their symmetry they provide a certain balance in the piece as they both turn towards the center, towards a type of energy or force not capable to be grasped at an unconcerned first glance.  Perhaps an indirect reference to God in this piece, not to be seen but inferred?  Possibly, as a small face from the center returns a questioning gaze to the viewer, seemingly to ask as a rhetorical response to a rhetorical question, “Who are you?”
