Graduate Legal Education

Pauli Murray wanted to pursue graduate legal education at Harvard after graduating from law school. Despite being valedictorian and receiving a lettr of recommendation from President Fraklin D. Roosevelt, she was denied admission because she was a woman. 

She attended the University of California-Berkeley, Boalt School of Law and received a Master's of Law, in 1945. She went on to become the first African American to receive a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Yale Law School, in 1965.
