<dcterms:description><![CDATA[This image taken by Bernard J. Kleina depicts civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at an event during the Chicago Freedom Movement. In this image, Dr. King, Jr. appears to be preparing to deliver a speech of some sort. King, Jr. is known for his prominent delivery of speeches during the civil rights period, but rarely were they documented in color; making this image a rarity for most. In this photo, Dr. King, Jr. can be seen with a subtle smirk, looking down at the podium. In front of him are a variety of microphones, and behind are several African American spectators. ]]></dcterms:description>

<dcterms:subject><![CDATA[Civil rights advocates marched in Chicago for fair housing]]></dcterms:subject>
<dcterms:description><![CDATA[This image, photographed by Bernard J. Kleina, shows large crowds marching in the streets of Chicago to advocate for fair housing. The crowd consisted of African American and white civilians, as well as police officers, some carrying batons, who were used as a way to control the crowd’s behavior. Although the white and Black officers are integrated, the civilians are segregated. The white people walked on the sidewalk/grass areas while the Black people were mostly in the streets alongside police. This distinction lends itself to the segregation and racial tensions that were actively taking place in America during the time. ]]></dcterms:description>
