<p>CHIS 319 African American History to 1865, is a course offered at Clark Atlanta University, which examines the process by which enslaved Africans became African Americans and adjust to early American society, including their continued struggles within and against the institution of slavery. This digital collection is comprised of selected materials from the Henry P. Slaughter, Slave Documents, and the 19th Century Newspapers Illustrations (Harper’s Weekly a Journal of Civilization) collections utilized by students for a <a href="https://glamportal.auctr.edu/cau-fall-2018">class assignment</a>.</p>
